Margi met me at the airport and brought me to my first-floor apartment in a beautiful old house on a quiet street in Lozenetz, a centrally-located neighborhood in Sofia.  The apartment is somewhat monastic, but cozy:  one large room, a decent bath with a separate shower area and good water pressure, a good-sized kitchen with a little stove in a windowed pantry.  An unexpected bonus is the “radiant heat”:  turns out the heating pipes for the entire house run directly under my apartment!  There are plenty of windows, a lot of light, and a large, overgrown front garden:  cherry, apple, grapes, holly, peony, lilac, roses.
